So, looking for some AMAZING music to listen to this weekend? Check out some of my personal favorites:
This incredible saxophonist blends the American sound of jazz with the cultural songs of his home country, Puerto Rico.
Best of the Black President – Fela Kuti (CD 5190)
If you don’t know who Fela Kuti is, it’s time to find out! This is the second staff pick featuring this incredible freedom fighter and king of Afro-beat!
Symphony No. 3, Opus 36 “Symphony of Sorrowful Songs” – Henryk Gorecki (CD 6037) Dawn Upshaw
This is a GORGEOUS symphony, and the vocalist, Dawn Upshaw is a name to be known. At first this collection of traditional-Polish inspired songs was criticized for being too “poppy,” but Henryk’s countrymen and foreign followers have come to love his third symphony.
El Tango – Astor Piazzolla (CD 5999)
My freshmen year this was THE CD being listened to…at least for the AU saxophone studio. It is an incredible compilation of tangos by and inspired by the great Argentinean bandoneón player, Astor Piazzolla.
I had to add this new CD recently released by my saxophone professor, Noah Getz, but if you even sorta like the saxophone you should check this out! Noah’s impeccable style combined with his incredible musicality is a wonder to listen to!
