Food for Fines is BACK!

Food for FinesOver the course of a college career, everyone accumulates library fines. It’s as certain as the tides. From now through December 22nd, though, you can knock those fines down while doing good with Food for Fines.

For more than fifteen years, the AU Library has partnered with community groups to provide food to those in need while giving students a break. Library patrons can bring non-perishable foods to the circulation desk in order to have a discount applied to their current library account.  The food will be going to the Capital Area Food Bank‘s Kids Café.

IMORTANT PROVISOS:

- Only certain items will be accepted. See the posters in the main library or in the Music Library for details.

- Students can only pay off up to $20 in fines with food.

On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me…

…a CD from the music library!

If you managed to keep the sing the tune while reading this title (despite the awkard rhythms squeezed together in “library”) then this is probably one of your favorite times of the year.

Ok, yes, finals are not that much fun. But just think – in 2 and a half weeks we will all be snuggled at home, decking the halls, drinking hot cocoa, petting our dog and cat, watching the snow and singing Christmas carols. Why not get in the mood now with some Christmas CDs from the music library?

In fact we have an entire CD by subject guide dedicated to Christmas music! And just for ease, I’ve selected a couple of my favorites from the pile:

  • Elvis’ Christmas Album (CD 1951)
  • A Jolly Christmas with Frank Sinatra (CD 5268)
  • Motown Christmas (CD 5059)
  • The Best of James Brown, Christmas Collection (CD 5063)

Even if you aren’t into Christmas and holiday carols – you should come by anyways. We’ll probably start having Christmas candy lying around pretty soon and you can always expect some new art project or coloring sheet at the music library!

So see you soon, and until then happy holidays and good luck with the end of the year!

Streaming Pierre Henry documentary “The Art of Sounds”

Pierre Henry Via Dangerous Minds: Take a look at this documentary on musique concrète pioneer Pierre Henry, who wrote some of the most off-the-wall electronic music of his day, scored films, and created popular(ish) multimedia music and projection concerts in the 1960s.

The documentary combines discussion and footage of his previous work with scenes of Henry preparing music for a concert at his home.

The library has a few of his works available. On CD we have “Orphée 53: Spectacle lyrique,” which he composed with Pierre Schaeffer.

We also have quite a few LPs (available at Media Services): Le Voyage, Variations for a Door and a Sigh, Entité, and Apocalypse de Jean.
