AU sheet music holdings now a part of the Sheet Music Consortium

Historical sheet musicThe Sheet Music Consortium consolidates the sheet music collections of many institutions, allows searching across all collections or within a particular collection, and links to digitized copies for easy access online. And now it includes listings of the sheet music housed here at the Music Library.

To access the collection, you can either choose browse from the list of repositories, or you can search within our collection by choosing ‘Advanced Search Options’ from the SMC home page, then ‘Narrow by Collection,’ and check off American University.

Watch free music movies on SnagFilms

SnagFilms logoWebsite, SnagFilms, which allows you to stream documentaries for free, has recently added dozens of music documentaries. The streams are high-quality, and their slick interface is easy to navigate.

Their offerings run the gamut from acknowledged classics like Buena Vista Social Club and Heavy Metal Parking Lot, to archival television footage of Miles Davis Frank Sinatra, and Leonard Bernstein, to concert films like Toots and the Maytals – Live at Santa Monica Pier, and straight documentaries like loudQUIETloud: A Film About the Pixies, Captain Beefheart – Under Review, and Ballou (about SE D.C.’s Ballou High School Marching Band).

Fort Reno Park concert schedule announced

The long-running Fort Reno Park summer concert series picks up again Monday, June 27th, with Beasts of Fort Reno Park concert photoNo Nation, Railsplitter, and Valley Tours. Shows are free, and occur twice a week all summer long. So it’s a great option if you’re on-campus or in Tenley this summer and want to hear some live, local music. Past summers have included such performers as Fugazi, the Dismemberment Plan, Q and Not U, and Ted Leo. Catch this year’s acts before they’re indie-famous.

Fort Reno Park is right across from the Wilson School at Fort Drive, two blocks north of the Tenleytown Metro station (get off the shuttle at Brandywine). All shows begin at 7:15pm and end by 9:00pm.
