Upcoming DC-area concerts

Here are a couple upcoming WPAS concerts that may be of interest.

First is pianist, Vladimir Feltsman.

Friday, March 26, 2010 at 8pm
More Than Notes at 6:45pm
The Music Center at Strathmore (just off the Grosvenor Red Line stop!)

Save $15! Buy online at WPAS.org or call (202) 785-WPAS and mention the code ‘save15.’ Deadline to redeem the offer is Thursday, March 25 at 5pm.

Program:

Haydn: Sonata in E-flat Major, Hob. XVI:49
Beethoven: Sonata No. 8 in C minor, “Pathétique”
Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition

For decades, Vladimir Feltsman has dazzled audiences throughout the United States and around the world. Feltsman’s “articulation was clean and precise, and the music’s spirit came through clearly,” wrote The New York Times of Haydn’s Sonata in E-flat Major. He also performs Beethoven’s Pathétique Sonata and the sublime Pictures at an Exhibition, of which one critic said, “Feltsman rendered Mussorgsky’s musical descriptions with such personal but convincing characterizations that you’d think he wrote the piece.”

If you’d like to hear more of Vladimir Feltsman, the Music Library has recordings of him playing Liszt (CD 579) and Schubert (CD 135)

Vocalists and other opera fans may be interesting in seeing Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Sondra Radvenovsky with the National Philharmonic the following week.

Dmitri Hvorostovskybaritone
Sondra Radvanovskysoprano
National Philharmonic

Mascagni: Intermezzo from Cavalleria rusticana
Verdi: “Ah tal colpa” from Un Ballo in Maschera
Leoncavallo: Intermezzo from Pagliacci
Tchaikovsky: Closing Scene from Eugene Onegin

Opera star Dmitri Hvorostovsky’s impressive range and charismatic performances have earned him distinction as “one of the great recitalists of our time” (The Guardian). He is joined by soprano Sondra Radvanovsky and the National Philharmonic for an unforgettable evening of song.

We have quite a few Dmitri Hvorostovsky recordings at the Music Library as well. Just search ‘Hvorostovsky’ on the Music Library catalog page.
